There is no question that winter in Missouri is extremely drab. So I think it’s exciting when May comes and the landscape overcorrects and becomes an explosion of green.  I like seeing all the new growth push out of the trees and the new leaves take shape.  Within a month or so, the insects will start feasting on them, fungus and other things will set in, and nature will run it’s course. But when they first come out they are perfectly shaped and free of blemishes. Not to mention a ridiculous vibrant shade of green!

The above photo is a super close up shot of some new growth on a Norway Spruce tree in my yard. I always like the rubbery texture of the new growth on spruces, but never noticed that contain the same spiral pattern that is found in sunflowers (and many other things in nature).
