I always hear that fire is a necessary process in nature, and that it rejuvinates the land which it engulfs. You may recall the wildfire that broke out west of here last summer and spread onto our farm. The land was pretty scorched and I feared many of the trees were dead. A few days ago I went through the area that had burned and was amazed at how well it’s recovered. Not only are most of the trees still alive and well, but the area is an explosion of wildflowers on a scale I’ve never seen before. It was a sea of yellow in all directions, and in some places the mass of flowers was probably 5 feet tall!
I think it’s always neat to see natural processes at work, especially when a place is seemingly destroyed by a fire, only to be replaced with something more spectacular with absolutely no human effort or intervention.
