Lady Bug

The other day I was commenting how I had never photographed a lady bug. Then one evening last week I happened to notice of few of these interesting little bugs marching around on a cherry tree out back.

I took about 50 shots of the bugs scurrying about the twigs and managed to get 1 where the focus hit right where I wanted. With depth of field being only about 1mm, it’s fairly challenging for a stationary subject, let alone a moving one. But I got lucky on this exposure and it came out pretty nice. On the full sized version you can see that the legs are actually quite furry!

If I had a macro ring flash I could stop the lens down instead of shooting at f/2.8 and buy myself some depth of field. But I guess I like to do things the hard way!
