Lots of people wished me “happy turkey day”, which got me thinking… that’s really about all this holiday is these days. Just like christmas is all about stressing out, and buying/giving gips, thanksgiving is mainly a day to celebrate america’s premiere addiction – eating.
Just the other day it hit me that not once during the holiday did I or any of my family mention anything about what all we have to be thankful for. Unfortunately the only way this will probably every change is if this country enters a severe economic depression. To be truly thankful for what you have, I think one must have experienced life without, and let’s face it – none of us have truly experienced this. What is special or thankful about eating a feast these days? By world and historical standars, we eat feasts every day of every week. No wonder that (according to the CDC) 65% of americans are overweight, and nearly half of those are obese. I will probably resurrect this subject a little closer to Christmas because it severely bothers me that my mom and granny spend more time worrying about finding out what everyone WANTS and trying to find time to buy it all – than just enjoying what a holiday is SUPPOSED to be.
So here is the lighter side of the week. I spend some time in Springfield with some friends over the weekend. I took a girl out to the movies and after I got our tickets she did the usual “thanks, you didn’t have to do that”
and then the ticket guy interrupted by saying (through the robotic sounding window speaker) “yeah he did”. We both turned and looked, and laughed. He shrugged and said “well, it’s true!”. Haha. Then went and stayed at Colby’s house, which is always a great time. It was an interesting night all around.
The other day Kurtis and I were talking about all the “So and So WEST” high schools and such. We decided if WC school district ever made a second HS it would be in Oronogo. And we figured their mascot would be the “Atnips” because every Atnip ever made lives within 5 miles of Oronogo, and rarely strays, even temporarily. So as a joke, I designed this great logo, for when this school is built.
I am planning to go to the MSU basketball game friday night, if anyone wants to go!
