Last year’s winter was the coldest in 30 years and dumped more than double the normal snowfall. I was thinking no matter what happened this winter at least it wouldn’t be last winter. So far this winter has outdone last year by leaps and bounds in nearly every way imaginable and we’ve just started February.
This morning my car indicated -12 on the way to work. I actually wouldn’t mind the excessively cold weather if I didn’t live in the most poorly insulated house west of the Mississippi. But as such I associate these types of winters with having to repeatedly repair broken water pipes, thousands of dollars in electric bills, and being generally uncomfortable most of the time.
Last week’s blizzard actually manifested a new winter woe for me… the heavy snow + 30mph winds managed to blow a drift of snow into attic, which subsequently melted and damaged the bathroom ceiling.
On the bright side, it could have been worse. Just to the west of here, Bartlesville set an all-time record low for the state of Oklahoma at -28 this morning and Wichita beat it’s all-time low by a full 12 degrees. Needless to say I am looking forward to warmer weather and getting back on my bike!
