Exciting win over Creighton in 2006 in the old Hammons Student Center

Saturday will be potentially one of the most exciting MSU games I’ve ever experienced. We’ll be playing Wichita, which is always exciting, it’s the last game of the season, and a winner take all for the conference championship. It will be one of, if not the largest crowds ever at a bears home game.

Here are some reasons I’d like to win on Saturday:

  • Conference Champions and #1 seed in MVC Tournament.
  • Watching a win is more fun than a loss.
  • I don’t want WSU to have the opportunity to celebrate on our home court.
  • WSU’s logo is easily the dumbest of any MVC team.

Looking back I can recall only a few other games that seemed to have even close to this much buzz. The win vs. Arkansas a couple years ago was much anticipated, but that was mainly due to the fact it was the first game at JQH. I also recall a few years ago when Indiana State was nationally ranked after starting the season with some high profile wins…but that was early in the season and as things progressed it turned out that ISU wasn’t actually good that year and neither were we. Another high profile game that comes to mind was the season ending game at home vs. Creighton in 2006. We were good that year and so was Creighton… we won an exciting game with a rowdy crowd but still didn’t manage to get into the NCAA tournament.

As with any highly anticipated game it could be an exciting victory or a disastrous end to the season. And the reality is that win or lose the bears will likely still have to win the MVC tournament to get into the NCAA. But either way it will be a fun atmosphere and as a proud MSU Alum I am excited to be there!
