On a Lake Without a Sail

sailing Sunday I went sailing at Stockton Lake with Grant and Jenn. While we were at the dock, a gust of wind came up and Grant, who was not yet in the boat said “umm, you’re about to be on your own”. I replied “what do you mean?” about that time the sail filled and the boat took off. I think this photo is funny because it shows Grant swimming after the runaway sailboat while I’m trying to figure out how to work a sailboat.

Once we got nice and far away from the shore (near the bridge in the background) we turned into the wind and a knot or something came loose and the entire sail assembly came crashing down. For the record, putting up a sail in the middle of a lake is hard, and each second that passed we drifted further from shore….well over a mile by our estimates. But who cares… we were sailing, which means we were having a great time. Eventually we got going and made it back!

Lots of excitement and good times!
