There was a story in the joplin globe yesterday about how business at gun stores is going through the roof since Obama was elected president out of fears he would ban gun purchases or impose a 500% tax (according to the article). I just think the whole thing is kind of crazy. I also think it is kind of funny how Obama had made the comment about people clinging to their guns, and now that he is president (or soon to be) – the people who were offended by that statement are in fact clinging to their guns in record numbers.
Gun control is one of those really touchy issues that I don’t care about. I don’t hunt or feel the need to keep a gun in the house nor do I strongly oppose guns or really care about guns at all. I suppose my only connection to the gun issue would be guns for hunting, which I support because hunting causes more people to take an interest or role in conservation, which is something I do have an interest in.
Personally I don’t really know why any civilian needs an assault rifle or a machine gun other than maybe something of historical value but that’s just me. But even if there were some kind of ban on the types of guns designed to kill people it would probably be as effective at keeping guns out of the hands of gangstas as banning pot is at keeping potheads from getting high.

I have a strong interest in guns & ammo because i hunt. If and when the tax is upped on guns and ammo, it will be upsetting to me. You may see me start to reload my own ammunition as it would probably be cheaper to do that then it would buying new cartridges. I would also like to protect my family in case of an outbreak…say like another Civil War. Not saying that is going to happen, but anything is possible.
There is never a more magical moment than having precisely the right tool to accomplish a task. When the particular task happens to be providing food for my family… a gun is clearly the right tool. I have always found joy in seeing a rabbit or quail laid on the dinner table after having sprayed 1,100 rounds of ammo from my camo, hunting Uzi… that, right there is sweet nature-loving magic.
I’d also like to coin the term, “Halfrican American”
