hawaii mapLast week I went to Hawaii, and checked one of the few states remaining on my list of states I haven’t been to. I liked Hawaii a lot because it was one of those states that has a lot of unique identity and character all it’s own. I randomly selected some pics from about 500 to post for everyone’s enjoyment. It was a very enjoyable getaway, as one might expect.

Here are some random facts about Hawaii. It is:

hawaii map

  • An archipelago (chain of islands) located approximately 3,900 miles southwest of here.
  • The most recent state to join the union (1959).
  • Continuously growing in size due to active lava flows adding to the coastline.
  • Home to Mount Waiʻaleʻale, one of the rainiest locations on earth, receiving an average of 460″ rain per year. Missouri has an average of 34″.
  • Extremely difficult to pronounce most all of the local town and street names.

Here are some photos:

I thought this was an interesting runway in the ocean.

Honolulu skyline with a nice rainbow!

The lava flowing into the ocean.

The lava flowing down the mountain towards the ocean.

Mom in the volcano.

A cool hike we did to Pololu Valley. Stormy seas on the north side of the island.

Me checking out the hot surface of the crater.

And of course the typical hawaii palm sunset pic.

  1. My dearest boyfriend….I would like to point out I did NOT have 4 or 5 suitcases! I had ONE big one and a back pack, and added an aditional small carry on on the way back with souvenirs. Also, I do not knit – I crochet. :o )

  2. So I might have been the one with 4 or 5… by the way Ryan that’s not what I meant when I said don’t put any pregnant-bathing suit pics of me up…but I guess it will do! ha ha =)

  3. OH! I was wondering why on earth you fuzzed out Poco in that picture. You goofball. :)

I’m glad you had a nice time!

  4. Looks like you had fun. I get the feeling from the last picture that your dad didn’t like being seen with you that day. I’ll have to check out more of your pics sometime.

  5. Lucky! I went to that same volcano about a year and a half ago. I walked all the way to the “volcano” (about 4 hours round trip from the place we had to park) only to find that the smoke we were seeing was only from an underground lava flow going directly into the ocean. I had big dreams of seeing some liquid hot magma, but instead got to sweat my butt off and see 5 million Japanese tourists.

  6. Wow! Hawaii looks so pretty! Looks like you guys had so much fun. First time I have checked out your site- it is pretty cool.
