Last weekend I went to an event that I haven’t been to in a very long time… a TRACTOR PULL. Not only have I been to a tractor pull before, but MANY TIMES before. This is a fact that most of you may not know about me. I used to eat these things up when I was a kid.
When I saw the commercial on tv for this one, the main reason I really wanted to go was for the nostalgia of it all. I used to go with my dad every summer but we stopped going… who knows, probably when I was about 10. I more or less expected it to be a celebration of all things redneck… but mainly trucks, tractors, and engines with way more horsepower than any normal person needs.
While it was definitely all of that, I have to admit I had a really good time. And I was very impressed with the “tractors”. Mind you, these “tractors” are only tractors by definition. They are basically tractor shells with some (very) high dollar parts and some magical redneck ingenuity. Where else can you see farm equipment that is powered by a jet turbine? That’s right. Only at a TRACTOR PULL.
So yeah, I would probably definitely go to another one. Except next time I will dress the part better with a flannel shirt, wranglers, and big belt buckle.
PS- This in no way changes my unenthusiastic opinion of NASCAR.
