This is truly a sad day. You may have heard the news that Steve Irwin died from an encounter with a stingray off the coast of australia. Those of you who have known me for awhile know my amazement with this animal planet superstar.
What you may not know is that me and steve were pretty tight. I got mail from him not once, but twice. Before he was a mega-star, I was not sure if he knew how awesome he was – so i wrote him and told him. It was one of the best days of my life when I went to the mailbox and found a reply from Australia. He sent me an 8×10 autographed photo and him, terri and sui (the dog). It was so cool. Then, for my birthday the next year I got a postcard from the Irwins. I am pretty sure I was their favorite fan.
Steve Irwin taught me everything I know about taking risks and having no fear when it comes to adventures. Were it not for him, I would have probably not been hurt so many times, nor been in so many death defying situation. Be it climbing on rickety fire-towers or traveling through the mid-east on the brink of war… i seek out adventure, and Steve Irwin is the reason why. I guess you can only defy death so many times though…
