For those who don’t know, Dubai is a very oil-rich city in the United Arab Emirates. It’s about a 2hr drive from Abu Dhabi, if you’ve heard of that. It was very easy to see how this country has capitalized on their oil resources in a more ‘western’ style, rather than how some countries funnel all the money to warlords and kings. Regardless, it kind of burned knowing that most of the amazing sights and lavish decorations everywhere were paid for by my spending $40 everytime i go to the gas station.

The weather in Dubai was unlike anything i’ve ever felt. It was extremely hot 110+, but unlike the heat prone areas of the USA, there was also intense humidity as you can see in this photo. This is the view from the roof of our hotel. If you look through the haze, you can see the turquiose water of the Persian Gulf.

Colby relaxing in the pool at the Landmark Hotel in Dubai. Although it looks refreshing – the water probably a good 90 degrees.

Supposedly we were staying in the "old" area of Dubai, which is called Deira. But there were still modern buildings everywhere. Not sure what the story is with this golfball looking thing.

I guess that is the more modern part of dubai in the distance. I have never seen so many crazy new skyscrapers. This image is just a tiny slice. The buildings went on for miles along the coastline.

One of the other vehicles in our expedition out into the desert. I guess this the begining of the Rhub al-Khali, which means "empty quarter". It is the worlds largest sand desert, and stretches down across most of easter saudi arabia.

The adventurists, Ryan McCoy and Colby Fronterhouse. Check out the sexy shirt i’ve been wearing for about a week straight now.

The endless sand dunes. It was like an ocean of sand. Not sure how the nomads survived out here. Or where all this sand came from?

Our shadows. Not sure who the 3rd player in this pic is though.

I guess this says "Objects in rear view mirror…." in arabic. Kind of interesting.

A camel in the wilderness.

My feet in the burning desert sand.

Hey cool guy!

I believe this is bruce from New Zealand who was in the same 4×4 as us on the desert tour. Here is the cafe that he and his wife own.

Colby and I ridin a camel. When it stands up it is kinda scary coz it feels like you’re going to fall over forward. Luckily we survived.. Oh btw, Colby hates Camels more than anything.

The little camp out amidst the dunes where we had an arabian bbq – which I have to say was really awesome.

The one thing that every place we visited had in common was the world cup. No matter where we were, people were watching it.
