CAPE TOWN, South Africa
What an exciting trip! South Africa is an amazing country – I definitely suggest you visit if you ever get the chance. But of course it sure is good to be home at last…

The sun rises over the Netherlands
while I wait to board my next flight. I flew overnight
from Detroit. Of course it was only dark for a
few hours since we were flying towards the sun.
I had a little trouble finding my gate because
for some reason they speak Dutch there, so my
flight was going to Kaapstad, not "Cape Town".

De stad van Amsterdam in de afstand.
Altough die ik als ik reeds gereist had een lange
manier heb gevonden, ik had nog bijna 12 uren
van verlaten vluchttijd alvorens ik bereiken zou
Kaapstad.
The city of Amsterdam in the distance.
Altough I felt like I had already traveled a long
way, I still had almost 12 hours of flight time
left before I would reach Cape Town.

The Sahara desert out the plane
window. This is in southern Algeria. It is weird
to look out and see such a strange and foreign
place. Not a place I would ever expect to see.

My sleeping area. Very nice view.
It was cool to wake up the next morning and see
where I was. Whoa – it’s summer in January!

Very nice sunset over Hout Bay.
This is the view out my window.

A self portrait of my chillin
out African style.

Supposedly they speak a language
called "Afrikaans", but it looks and
sounds exactly like Dutch to me. Being that South
Africa is a former Dutch colony, I am bettng they
are very closely related.

The city of Cape Town, in all
its splendor.

They drive on the left in South
Africa, which is weird. Also take note of the
strange looking trees on the hillside.

A cool looking sign for an african
bank.

Having a nice desert at a really
nice vineyard/winery. It was good ice cream with
fresh berries. My kind of thing.

The vinyard with mountains and
the bay in the distance. I guess vineyards are
pretty common in South Africa.

Lee’s house, where I stayed. My
‘area’ was on the lower level behind the trees.

Is this water great or what? I’ve
heard rumors of seeing dolphin in this bay, but
I was not so fortunate.

The town of Hout Bay, as seen
from the residence where I stayed.

I have never sailed, I wonder
if it’s fun?

Driving around in Cape Town, with
Table Mountain in the background.

Jason volunteered to help me locate
this geocache. By the end of the day we were both
burned and very tired.

A really scary looking spider
that I almost ran into along the trail.

This lizard was just chillin on
a rock. He let me take his pic, and then went
on his way.

Good thing I took that rock climbing
class in college.

We stumbled across some way cool
caves on top of the mountain. I bet there is buried
treasure, or at least some jewels somehwere around
here!

A weird mountain from the place
where the geocache was hidden.

More cliffs as we were coming
back down the other side of the mountain.

The travel buy, just before I
dropped it in the cache. The instructions for
this TB were to get it far away from Boston. I
think I helped out, since I moved it almost 9,000
miles.

This is what I had for breakfast
one morning. Despite the name, it was quite good
actually.

The cape of good hope, a place
I really never would have expected to visit.

Yes, I really am THAT sunburnt.

I thought this was a cool sign.
Jason walked with me up to the top of this point.

A view from above – the Cape of
Good Hope again. Beautiful coastline huh!

Baboons wander around here like
its their roadway. I hear they are mean.

Everyone loves penguins. They
are so weird and cool.

Jason sings along with Alanis
Morisette which only he can hear because its in
a little ear-bud headphone.

Me + sunburn chillin at the net
cafe, where I was able to email back home.

Packing up the gear for our first
day of shooting. It was about an hours drive I
think, to the south east of Cape Town.

The town of Betty’s Bay – or also
known as Bettysbaai.

The interesting little home where
we did our first video shoot.

Some beautiful countryside along
the highway.

This area
along the south coast reminded me of what I would
expect Scotland to look like. It was very beautiful
undeveloped country.

Our second shoot location. I really
kind of was expecting to see Froto Baggins and
his fellowship walk across the road in search
of Mordor. I kept my eye out, but never saw them.

A harbor as we made our way back
to Cape Town.

Early morning in Africa as we
made our way to the airport to go to Johannesburg
for the remaining video shoots.

The area around Jo-Burg reminded
me a lot of Oklahoma City.

A nice field. This place reminded
me a lot of home, so naturally I liked it.

It was quite an adventure trying
to find our way to our interview. The best thing
about Africa is that roads outside of the city
aren’t named. They are just roads.

Some african dudes walking down
the road with a box of something.

A windmill. I really wasn’t expecting
a sight like this in Africa.

A cool elephant license plate
on our rental car.

Leaving Jo-Burg. Only 25 more
hours of flight time left until I reach home!

Some desert mountains somewhere
in the interior of South Africa.

A couple gips for mom and poco.
I let them ride back in my backpack. Good thing
too – otherwise they probably would have been
stolen out of my suitcase along with my dv camera
and 3 bags of sour tots.

Verlatend Amsterdam opnieuw, dat
definitief terug naar de V.S. wordt geleid!
Leaving Amsterdam again, finally
headed back to the USA!
